    Understanding the cost components

FOB (Free On Board) Djibouti is the price at which coffee is loaded onto the vessel at Djibouti port. It includes the cost of the coffee itself, internal transport from Ethiopia to Djibouti, dry milling, export documentation, and our margin. This is the price you see in contracts and the number against which premiums (for organic, Fair Trade, etc.) are applied.

Ocean freight covers the cost of transporting a container from Djibouti to your destination port. Rates vary by shipping line, time of year, and container availability. EU-bound shipments typically transit the Suez Canal at around 14–18 days; US West Coast shipments go around the Cape of Good Hope at 28–35 days.

Import duty is applied at your destination port based on the HS code for green coffee (typically 0901.11). The EU applies a 9% duty on non-preferential green coffee imports (Ethiopia is not under EPA/GSP+ for coffee), reduced to 0% under some bilateral agreements. The US, UK, and Australia apply 0% duty on green coffee. Japan applies 6% general rate. Check your specific HS code and trade agreement status before purchasing.
